Cambodian Minister of Justice Reinforces ASEAN Legal Collaboration

Phnom Penh: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Justice, Keut Rith, reiterated Cambodia's dedication to ongoing collaboration within the ASEAN framework to achieve significant legal milestones.

Mr. Keut Rith reaffirmed this commitment during a courtesy meeting and discussion with Mr. Kao Kim Hourn, Secretary-General of ASEAN, on Tuesday morning, March 12, 2024, at the Ministry of Justice.

Welcoming Mr. Kao Kim Hourn and the ASEAN Secretariat delegation to Cambodia, the Deputy Prime Minister commended the effective efforts of the ASEAN Secretariat in facilitating and enhancing cooperation within ASEAN for greater achievements.

Notable accomplishments highlighted included the Special Meeting between ASEAN-Japan Justice Ministers, the ASEAN-G7 Justice Ministers' Meeting in Tokyo, Japan, and the 12th ASEAN Law Ministers' Meeting (12th ALAWMM) ASEAN (ASLOM).

Mr. Keut Rith emphasized Cambodia's sustained collaboration within the ASEAN framework with other member countries to attain crucial legal agreements, such as the ASEAN Extradition Treaty, aimed at promoting comprehensive legal cooperation within the region.

During the discussions, the importance of bolstering cooperation among ASEAN member states to jointly tackle transnational crimes, including online scams, was underscored as common challenges necessitating collective action.
